Doing bad at school is a temporary setback. First, you need to identify why you are doing bad, then you need to find out how to remedy that effectively. Then you need to implement that.

Don't feel bad. I had a class of 42 in my Mechanical Engineering. Only 8 of us passed within the "normal" time frame. Lots of people dropped classes and went for another year. It's not the end of the world. I passed solely by completely burning myself out so bad I couldn't even think about getting a summer/fall job this year (I'm going back for Electrical Engineering).

Join the club. I thought one of my finals was on a later date, (it wasn't), and ended up not going to it and I didn't give a shit to make it up. I don't think it's that abnormal to drop or fail classes. It just means that we'll have to take the class again, and colleges are eager to take our money. Failing isn't good, but sometimes you gotta fail for motivation to succeed. After the shittiest semester of my life, I now know what patterns I need to avoid myself getting into. No more skipping class because we're not doing anything important, no more blowing off homework, no more not studying, no more procrastinating, no more excuses, and no more letting myself down.

I know it's a feeling of doom and dread, but the best remedy is to just work harder next time and succeed.

-- By which I assume you mean you're not doing well IN school.

-- Although doubtless you're probably also not "doing good" (i.e. doing something of useful value in the real world), because almost by definition the majority of schooling is devoid of that.

-- And I point this out because it isn't merely a semantic distinction... it goes to our "core" drives and our self-perceptions of our own "value" and "purpose."

I don't know what to do with my life right now.

-- This is quite normal and very common for young people.

-- Chances are you've experienced very little of the "real world" outside of school, and the artificial perspective of that system -- so give yourself a bit of a "break" in terms of KNOWING "what to do with your life" -- you've (effectively) been insulated and isolated from actual "living" for virtually your entire existence... how could you possibly actually know what to do for the entirety of your future life??

I'm so disappointed with myself.

-- Ah now... are you really?

-- Is it yourself that you are "disappointed" with...

-- or is it perhaps the "path" that you are on -- schooling and the standard "life script" -- that you are disappointed with, growing disenchanted about, and dis-illusion-ed over.

-- That last word -- dis-illusion-ed -- the dropping & discarding of an "illusion"... think on that.

It's a bitchy post but I don't know who to tell this, I trust you more than the bitches in my life. I think I'm about to do something crazy.

-- SOME times, certain kinds of "crazy" things (at least as others would see or call them) can in fact be the BEST things you will do in your entire life... they can help you experience the actual world, and learn how to compose an answer to that whole "what to do with my life" problem.

-- OTHER kinds of "crazy" of course... are just mistakes.

-- Discerning the difference is important... choose your "crazy" wisely, and you probably won't regret it.

Don't sweat it. You're just stressed out. I am 36 and I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up.

Pick a trade, any trade that you can stand, preferably do well, and that is needed whether the economy is good or bad. Masonry, carpentry, welding, engineering, something they can't outsource. A trade keeps food on the table.

When you have food and shelter and you are completely independent, then you figure out what you want to do.

My mistake? I spent 6 years getting a degree in programming, looking for the big bucks, only to find out that I was completely replaceable by some guy in India making 1/10th of what I did. The global opportunities of IT can also be its downside. Had to go back to school to become an electrician. Later I took up day trading and selling stuff online, but it’s nice to have a fallback.

No need to do anything crazy. If you need to, post more so we can all talk and help you out the best we can :) Growing is not easy.
