This has been distracting me for a while - need to put it down. I'm beginning to see how the TL;DR could happen : OnlyFans doesn't sell porn - it sells connection. And that is more dangerous.

  • An 11 year old boy discovers online porn for the first time and cultivates the ability to "consume" it without discovery. He is brought up in a community that still considers sexuality unacceptable for him to express, so takes steps to present a 'face' to dissuade suspicion. Over time he becomes better and better at pretending to be the upright chap he is supposed to be.
  • The boy is eventually confronted with moderately attractive female peers who show no interest in him. Through trial and error he eventually hits a formula where they are willing to at least interact with him in a positive and pleasant way - indeed in a way that he has never experienced before - so long as he operates with a new face. In time he may even get lucky enough to merit sexual favors through this face.
  • The cycles of adolescence continue and the boy becomes a low tier teenager, somehow surviving mandatory schooling through not drawing attention to himself and/or presenting another face for the public. He is still consuming pornographs on a regular basis as this provides relief from the stern realities of life, perhaps requiring more and more exotic and explicit things to get relief.
  • At some point the boy is smart enough to realise that the quality of face he can present will not get him further sexual favors - or any worth the effort after some awful relationships and/or experiences, and instead spends his time on something with economic value - pre-college accountancy for example. The boy approaches adulthood but has been consuming porn so much that it's lost most of its raw power and is just part of the routine, like laundry and cooking.
  • The man achieves a modest success in higher education and makes the early start to a career, surrounded by women who have no interest in him or any faces he has to offer. His male friends and peers pair off with women leaving him less and less connected to people beyond trivialities and life style maintenance. He may even see his peers relationships fail and read that as a caution.
  • The man continues in his career largely in isolation, still consuming pornographs in the same manner as vitamin supplements. Then at some point he comes across or participates online community which is built around some form of sexuality. Suddenly porn feels good again, because it has a the drivers of a community, acceptance and mutual enjoyment.
  • The buzz eventually mellows. The community becomes rote, participation loses its sheen and the appeal wears off. Another community is attempted, the same result occurs, but over a shorter time frame.
  • At some point, a female community member (lets assume an exhibitionist) clicks with a 'face' available to the man. The thrill returns, here's a girl who interacts with the least constructed face available and also tends to his pornographic appetites. The man feels a sense of relief rarely experienced in previous relationships because there is nothing to lose but his time, and he gets porn which works better than anything else he's consumed as an adult.
  • "hey, I could use some $x, could you help me out through this only fans thing? I'll send you something special"
