A lot of over reaction. Everyone but dingdong got the hell out of there. She rolled on her back and put her feet up and the elk backed off. Maybe a 2-3 second window where it might have made sense to help if you were in a position to. But everyone else was (smartly) well out of range to.

This is like people in BC whining about bear and cougar attacks but it never occurs to them to out into the wilderness armed. I guess they expect the police to come help.
