Well, possibly. But the other explanation is simple: you're a guy, or more correctly you're an average young guy.

IOW this is just the extension of the fact that a 15 year old guy has probably never had sex, but a 15 year old girl probably has; by age 16 or 17 the guy may have had one partner (probably a 15 year old girl), but a similar 16 or 17 year old girl will probably have had 3, 4 or more; ergo by age 21 with just an average of say 2 guys per year and being "sexually active" for ~5 years, the typical girl will have had ~10 partners. (And note that during any one of those years, to get to that "2" count she simply has to sleep with 1 guy other than her current "boyfriend"; which could be some ONS while she is dating/screwing him, OR it could simply be that she swaps boyfriends at approximately the < 6 month mark).

Young women have -- since time began -- chased after men who are slightly older than they themselves are; years ago (prior to: the pill, abortion on demand, STD testing & antibiotics, widespread easy/nonshameful condom access, etc) that probably meant quite a bit LESS sexual activity than it does today... but they still probably "courted/dated" a similar number.

Nowadays the panties come off almost instantly for any "bad boy" that comes along... and as the article notes, this is entirely encouraged even promoted as a "healthy" thing.

It isn't of course -- in fact it is massively devastating to their health (mental, emotional, as well as physical) -- but they have been convinced (and WANT to believe) otherwise.

er hello basic statistics 101, this is a nonsense article.

if you totalled the entire population of hetrosexual men and hetrosexual women, its mathematically impossible for women to have more sexual partners than men (ignoring things like threesomes and same sex encounters etc).

i.e for every "new sexual partner" a woman has so does a man (summed over all genders).

its just a shitty sampling bias and poorly made "questionaire" from a shitty womens mag.

its as ridiculous as claiming there are 20% more muggings than there are who have been mugged,

by definition they have to equal each other since any data point of "a new sex partner" must be registered on both genders each time.
