Just thinking out loud. 2-3h commute as in driver or can sit on a bus/train and not completely wasted time because you can perhaps learn/read on your way?

Try to get a job as an RA in a dorm, usually comes with free room and board, at least it did when I was in college.

Im 25, finishing second year of university ( we have 3 years of mandatory military service for men in my country so going to school at 24 is normal) in the top school we have here( I study Accounting as my major). I work a 60% part time job as a mortgage advisor for the largest mortgage bank in my country. While it is true that many women take high level positions, it is actually very visible that men can advance way faster because the women get married and have kids- which makes them less able to take top leadership positions since they are eligible for 4 months maternity leave by law and are way less willing to take a job that requires over 8 hours of work each day- which all top positions like credit approval and team management require. I live in western country ( we are in the OECD) so it would be pretty close to your position. I think that you should try and go for what excites you most rather than for what seems "right".

Here are some ideas.

1.) Do the first 2 years in a community college. Then transfer to the regular college. Those first 2 years are usually elective classes. Might as well take the electives at the cheaper school. When you transfer, they will take most credits and you save money.

2.) Make sure you the college you go to has a strong Co-operative Education or internship. Do major corporations go to that school to hire people?

The people who did well in my school did a coop in their senior year. When they graduated they already had a job. The coop company offered them a job.

3.) Stick to STEM. If a company wants to hire someone and the choice is between a business major or a science major, the science major wins. My buddy was a physics major and he got a job 2 weeks after graduation. I was unemployed for a year before I got a job. And my job sucked.

How quantitive is your major? Maybe should should look at optionality instead of locking yourself in. Maybe in a couple of years you'll hate your dads, his company goes broke or you decide you want to go become a Hollywood agent for the Weinstein privileges. Things change and you need to create the greatest number of options at this stage of your life not just doing a 4 year degree to get a job at your fathers lab.

Hey I'm going to give you some advice coming from somebody who's seen some shit, been in different industries, and currently watching the company I'm in transform into a feminist lock-down.

Now, I won't tell you what industry just to keep things anon. But, it would be similar to, say, a tech company that makes hardware and software. It went from a mom-n-pop size (300 employees with some international locations, mostly men across the board, except for support admin, etc) to a large company with 1500+ employees. And over the last five years, holy shit. All positions of authority are being handed over to females - who in turn hire females (not all, most overwhelmingly female).

New "rules" in HR fucking mandated that all new management and director positions must possess a Masters degree at a minimum. So these women are entering the workforce at 28 with a piece of toilet paper called a "masters", and getting launched into management roles - with zero fucking experience or talent. It's literally insane what's happening. If you have to work for one of these women, amongst other women as your peers, it's nothing short of a nightmare.

So, point being. I would tell any brother here, who is deciding what they want to do with their lives, to take a serious step back and ask yourself if you want to be involved in such a fucking disaster as this.

Almost every industry, with the exception of some obvious ones where real hardcore man labor is required like commercial construction, for example, you are gong to be dealing with a litany of hateful cunts who want to rip your head off for just being a dude. And if you are a professional threat to one? Well, then, your head is on a fucking pike, man. Nothing but resistance, static and impossibly-phony posturing from fake millennial female managers who were bred and raised under Marxist-level feminism.

On a side note, we are building a new office building, people are watching it go up from the windows of the other building. Guess what gender 100% of the 85 or so workers are? And guess from what wallet the cash came from to pay these men to make this beautiful massive structure out of steel, cement and glass, to an eighth-inch perfection? A man's wallet. Sometimes I feel like mentioning this fact to somebody at the office, but that would be suicide.

I get that your dad owns the company you speak of, but for others not in this position.. Think twice about studying for fucking years, paying out your ass for the classes, working in a cube farm for 20+ years, just to be dominated and controlled by females left and right. And if it's a dude who manages you, he's a mangina who will soon be replaced by a gash. Many hierarchies (departments) at the company I'm at have like two or three levels of command occupied by females now, with a few getting officer nods, the first ever.

I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU AS A 17 YEAR OLD YOUNG MAN GROWING UP.

It's amazing how fast life goes but make sure you have an expensive job to impress the ladies, back in the day 50% of my income went on attractive women so really try and work your butt off so you can provide for a woman & mayby even kids some time.
