Interesting.... I'm glad I found MGTOW. I've gained so much relief and clarity in my life.

OH MY GAD

[–]balancedben 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

nothing wrong with denying anything be it religion or science .... which is largely just theoretical whenever it comes to thing such as black holes and the such. not that i'm denying science myself.

Science is not "largely just theoretical". Stop saying such things or morons will believe you.

[–]balancedben 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

there's a lot in science that's theoretical ranging from black holes to quantum mechanics and quantum physics.

I think your view on science is based on a misconception that many people have. The whole point of science is to get an understanding of reality by modelling it. We than do experiments to gain an insight in which limits these models apply.

For example, most people would say that it is wrong (maybe unscientific, whatever) to say the earth is flat. But get a map of a city and you will notice that you can navigate it just fine. So the model of a flat earth is not wrong, it just only applies when regarding small distances on its surface.

Quantum mechanics as well as Relativity is an extremely successful model as shown by many experiments and even daily live (semi-conductors, GPS...). We know that QM only applies for small scales and Relativity only for big masses and/or high speeds. But of course we have not yet found all limits of their application. It is hard to do experiments on black holes.

In this sense, it simply doesn't make sense to deny scientific models because it would be like denying that hammers exist when you really only want to get a nail into your wall.

Of course it is ok to specualte on the limits of their application. On the other hand, the question what "reality" means is a philosophical one.

Sorry, but I'm gonna stick with Newton. Superstitionists can keep Rabbi Einstein and all the rest of modern Kabbalah "Science" with its Quark angels.

Starving artist thing hit me hard. Always thought they liked my music. Probably not.

The problem is that "Evo Psych" is "Just So Stories" with a pseudo-sciencey-candy coating.

Disagreeing with any particular "evo-psych" theory (and there are an infinite number; nearly all of which contradict each other)... is not "science denial" -- it certainly (more importantly) isn't "reality denial" (which alas a lot of what purports to be "science" actually IS).

Fairly good recent book on this is Hallpike's Ship of Fools: An Anthology of Learned Nonsense about Primitive Society -- which FACTUALLY debunks a whole shitload of bullshittery around the trendy stuff in anthropology/sociology and "evo psych."
