It's probably not a gender thing but I only have experience with women. And, I think it's more of a spectrum but the differences on each end are night and day. It's boils down to how quickly they turn to anger during a conflict or emotional confrontation. And for me, it was the difference between going years where I barely raised my voice to years of daily yelling/fighting.

As far as I can tell, the determining factor is her relationship to her father. This could also be influenced by her first LTR if there was no father. And, obviously, her underlying personality plays into it. Basically, her early intimate (nonsexual) relationship with a male teaches her how to interact with men. All my relationships were long term so I got to know their extended family and this has held true for all of them.

The big red flag is when she gets angry instantly and unexpectedly. For those of you who still choose to have relationships, ask her about her father (or other) early on and listen closely. One of the "angry types" I knew fought like that with her father and she didn't have a very high opinion of him. Another one was very close to her father. She was an only child and she was his special little girl. They were very close and loving but when they got into a fight it was explosive. She was the same way with me and that one was probably the worst.
