A friend of mine recently sold his place in Puerto Rico, he said the crime on the island was too much for him.

I recently went for a visit. It was so beautiful. The beaches were amazing. The vegetation is growing back. It's already very green, but the extremely dense growth it once had will take a little time to get back to it's original condition. It rains a ton there, so regrowth is happening very quickly.

I had a blast swimming and hiking in El Yunque. A lot of it is still closed off to tourists, but I hired a local to take me around, off the beaten path. Local licensed tour guides can take people inside the rain forest, while the big bus tour companies still can't. Not all the roads in the rain forest have been rebuilt.

What surprised me the most was how friendly the young people were to me. When I asked them for help, all of them went out of their way to make sure I got the best knowledge. If I do this in mainland America, the Millennials will just waive me off or give me shit. And finish it off with a smirk.

Everybody is bilingual, but you'll enjoy it more if you can speak Spanish. I can. Their food is very tasty, I loved it, and the best part was all the fresh local fruit for sale everywhere.

I can't wait to go back. Everyone was real friendly to me. But I only experienced it as a tourist, so I don't know about the crime situation. Good luck!

Apparently rich people retire out there. They have low taxes and if you have money you can get good property on the water but of course they had those hurricanes recently.

Go for a 1 month visit. You'll how you feel about it.

I found there to a shit ton of poverty, questionable infrastructure, corruption in government from top to bottom. But that was 10 years ago. Consider the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan, Costa Rica, or southern Mexico on the Pacific side
