The myth of females maturing faster than males is dispelled by the cock carousel. Men don't "mature" as in understand how women aren't really as valuable as the world says they are until we're older because so many people depend on our ignorance of that fact to lead us around by the nose and steal the resources we generate based on the belief of women's superior "value." Women mature faster, but stop maturing around 14 mentally. I grew up around several women who behave the exact same way they did as when they were 14 years old. The only way most women "mature" is by getting more and more bitter with age.

I think girls do mature earlier than boys.

The evolutionary reason might be that because girls are physically weaker than boys they need to mature earlier to be able to protect themselves. The opposite strategy might help boys. Boys are not as threatening as men so by remaining unthreatening for as long as possible (to competing males) might help them achieve sexual maturity and survival in evolutionary terms.

But at the end of the day, in nature the most intilligent animals always have the longest childhoods. Boys take longer to mature because males are on average more intilligent than females.
