Earlier today, my wife, her mom, and her sister were in the other room talking, where they didn't think-- or didn't care if-- I could hear them. I've changed any names to fake ones.

  • Mother-in-law: "Joe [her husband, my father-in-law] needs to in for a physical soon. Is it bad that I'm trying to discourage him? Because if he goes in, they might find something wrong, and that will be expensive."
  • Sister-in-law: "It's not bad, screw him."
  • My wife: "Yeah, when Alan [me] dies, I hope it's quick so all of the life insurance doesn't just wind up paying for hospital bills."
  • Mother-in-law: "I've told Joe before, 'If you get cancer, I'm going to be so angry with you!'"

Even by female standards, the conversation struck me by its cold ruthlessness. The worst part about this is that my daughter was in the next room, and if I could hear this conversation behind a closed door, there's no doubt she could too.

But in a way, maybe my mother-in-law deliberately made sure that was the case? She definitely poisoned her two daughters against men; my wife (who is extremely moody and neurotic) finally openly admitted to me that she uses sex purely as a way to manipulate me, and her morbidly obese sister has always said, "I don't need men in my life." I'm at the point where I'm going to start shunning my wife if she ever brings up sex, because I don't want to be taken advantage of. Porn is good enough for me.

I wish I would have had an MGTOW influence earlier in my life; my wife and I got married when we were 18 and 21 respectively, and at 21 I just didn't have the wisdom. I'm almost 40 now, and have two kids who I love more than anything. My wife has threatened divorce when we've had arguments, and I'm worried she'd get the kids, so I back down. It's an effective technique, which I could use advice in combating.

Let my life be a lesson to single men.
