I feel like rule 1 for financial independence ( for men) is don't get married . ughhh I see a bleak future for this hardworking well planned man.

I think he knows, despite himself. Glad I dont have his problem; even his 2M dollars will become a liability when she turns on him full force.

very true. this guy's going to get taken to the cleaners when he stops producing or she's ready to leave for the CC.
I lost half my wealth in divorce and pay alimony and child support. I estimated that during my marriage my ex spent 70%-90% of every dollar we spent. My wealth only needs to provide for me in retirement not her, which is essentially an 80% increase in value.
My alimony and child support are less, on average, than what she spent when we were married.
I've gained back the wealth I lost a few years after the divorce was final. Onward and upward.

Very similar story here. I haven't recovered yet, but working on it. Bitch had an escape fund I didn't know about!
OP would be wise to consider not retiring any time soon as that will trigger her exit (briffault's law). He needs to be very very careful with his next step

Mine didn't but she had her parents to help her. We were separated for a few years, which let the anger and resentment cool down. We worked out most of the terms between us and discussing with our attorneys. My main priority was to have full shared joint custody without conditions or restrictions, which we have.
I started an investment account before my kid was born, my child support goes directly into this account, my ex and I both have access so we can see what goes in and out. She also has another investment account for him that she created and manages, I don't have access but she does tell me if I ask, and she's asked for investment advice for the account.
See if you can calculate what % of spending she was responsible for during your marriage. Your wealth has that as an instant boost since it only covers you, i.e., you may be like me, needing much less for retirement than if I was still married.

She will spend half of it on divorce lawyers then take what's left "for the kids".

Yeah don’t, they banned any mention of gender over there. Too many people mentioning how women are a financial liability and it doesn’t fit the narrative.

some of us have to learn the hard way, but times were different when I got married in the '90s. For many years now, marriage is and will continue to be a bad contract for men.

Yeah I wouldn't even bother planning for FIRE if I were married

That a financial dependence, not independence.

How can he be so sure that the market is going to continue going well for another 4-6 years?
