Statistics are bullshit.

Some of them are, some of them aren't... much depends on the data, and then the context of the interpretation(s) and/or conclusion(s) that people attempt to impose upon them; including a lot of faulty base assumptions.

Let me explain. 1 book out of maybe 1000 gets on the New York Times bestseller list. Does that mean any of us don't have a chance to get there? Not even remotely.

Well, to begin with the NYT "bestseller" listing is not really a "statistic" -- worse than that it's a complete FRAUD -- Despite what the NYT maintains (*) it is in fact not a reliable listing of the actual "best SELLING" books at all.

The listing is unquestionably HEAVILY biased -- and almost certifiably fraudulent -- the mere fact that not yet published books (always from "MAJOR book publishing houses") are often included as "bestsellers" is only the most blatantly obvious aspects of the fraud (one could almost say "farce").

Basically a BIG CHUNK of that list is PURE BULLSHIT -- it's not actual sales, but rather "secret sauce" projected "sales* -- projected HOW? Well via the NYT "trade secret 'time' machine" of course -- otherwise known as a "self-feedback mechanism" (that is, books they add TO the list, often subsequently sell MORE copies -- almost unquestionably more than they otherwise would, and often FAR more than other books do... even if {just as often} still far short of the mark of actually being a "best seller"). And of course SOME of the truly BIG actual "best selling" books ARE included in the list. (Doubtless to avoid turning the listing into such an egrgious and OUTRAGEOUS fraud that -- more than any other concern -- to prevent the public at large from REALIZING that the REST of the list is complete "bullshit.")

* They (rather laughably) claim that "process" is a "trade secret" -- rendering it entirely opaque and therefore entirely UNvetted, UNverified, and UNvalidatable -- by anyone. The excuse/rationalization is dubious (at best) to wit (from the Wikipedia entry):

The exact method for compiling the data obtained from the booksellers is classified as a trade secret.[5] Book Review staff editor Gregory Cowles explained the method "is a secret both to protect our product and to make sure people can't try to rig the system. Even in the Book Review itself, we don't know (the news surveys department's) precise methods."[6] In 1992, the survey encompassed over 3,000 bookstores as well as "representative wholesalers with more than 28,000 other retail outlets, including variety stores and supermarkets."[5] By 2004, the number was 4,000 bookstores as well as an unstated number of wholesalers.[4] Data is adjusted to give more weight to independent book stores, which are underrepresented in the sample.[4]

What's the point?

If your TRUE goal is to write an actual "best selling" book -- IOW one that actually has HUGE SALES -- then just go ahead and do it.

The NYTime "Bestseller" list be damned -- IOW don't worry about that -- in fact you shouldn't even CARE about it at all.

Why? Because as a new/unknown author, you're far more likely to make a SHIT TON more money via a self-published (i.e. Amazon ebook, etc) book, or one published through one of the OTHER (more honest, if smaller scale) publishing houses than you will signing over your rights to one of the BIG "major" book publishers (who get {and "allocate"} those "NYT Bestseller" slots via their promotional crap -- and who quite frankly, all too often have LOWER total sales; and the general authors of which most definitely get FAR lower total royalties -- than the "small/independent/self-published" authors do).

Because when it comes to the actual promotion -- in ANY case (regardless of which "publisher" you're with) -- you're pretty much going to be "on your own" regardless.

I have very little imagination for this kind of stuff but I'm surprised at myself how fast I came up with this. The reason is that this is actually based on a true story, players, locations, reasons are different thou.

The only problem i see with this is you going completely crazy with this shit. And I wouldnt really appreciate being associated to a bullshit book written for women, I actually be ashamed, but you are a businessman go ahead.
