I worked in IT for 9 years. 7 of that was in the Air Force. I met so many stupid people, I pretty much had to come to the conclusion everyone is stupid. I never got the impression there were any men in any of the places I worked who were too emotionally weak to call the help desk. I probably answered more stupid questions from men because men are the ones who get tasked to the be IT liason... plus there are just more men in the military. Don't know if that correlates with willingness to step outside one's comfort zone or not. Honestly, the demographic who acted most technophobic, techno-illiterate, and emotionally weak, were Baby Boomers.

The difference is that, in general, when a man doesn't know how something works he will tinker with it til he figures it out or gets stuck. At which point he will then go get help. Someone who has been handed everything in their life and has had to learn little to no problem solving skills other than: "help me cuz I'm (passingly) pretty" why would they try to figure anything out if someone will inevitably gladly do it for them? They wouldn't, it's just a difference of perspective on life. As a man climbs the corporate ladder higher, the quicker he will call IT because why? Someone will inevitably fix it for him.
