It wasn't Padme that made the decision though, it was the White Knight, err Jedi Knight Obi-Wan that sent the girl to live in luxury and the boy to live on Jabba's desert wasteland. If she had been given the choice though, I'm sure the result would've been similar.

Luke was sent to Tatooine because that's where his family was and it was well hidden from the empire that would be searching for him. Kenobi also knew he would have to raise him as a Jedi so another real reason to be isolated. Still a funny meme.
