I see people wearing multiple rings who are not married. The married people I know don't show their rings and its not because they want to conceal marriage.

We still see it as a symbol of marriage. The problem is that marriage, historically, has been seen as a good thing. We see it as something to stay completely away from. Marriage represents manipulation, restriction, shackles, lack of freedom, etc.

So while the symbolic nature remains the same, the perceived positive feelings and emotions associated with it have been replaced with negative ones. It’s an evolution of society since women have been given too much power and freedom in the last century.

Well if you limit it to wedding symbols here's my two cents.

I see the ring as a huge useless expense to materialize the ability of the man to provide, and also to materialize the sacred vows that unsurprisingly have very high chances of being broken eventually anyway.

Same goes for the wedding dress. I mean paying a shit ton of money for a dress that will be used only 1 day in your life is just madness.

On top of that you have to make a big costly event where you invite people that you don't even care about to watch your rings and your dress to prove that your two families are united (at least temporarily)

And then go on a trip that is supposed to feel more magical just because there is a contract legally binding you and your wife to care for each other from now on.

All of this is costly and can put the couple in a very uneasy financial situation. (Considering you're most probably paying for a house at this point and trying to put money aside for the children) Which is a very good start to a big failure in the end.

Yet if you prove yourself cheap on just a single one these options : you will be seen like someone who only thinks about money and not love. Yet the only people thinking about money over love are the very people who wants a contract/ring/dress/event and honeymoon rather than simply love each other.

In other words : I see every symbol of marriage as financially irresponsible and unwise, especially considering the divorce rate. Well unless you're a woman of course. Because women are almost always winning underserved money either way.

The rabbit hole goes deeper than you think. Symbols have been part of the human communication for a long long time. If that's how people symbolize marriage and shit. Then so be it. To each their own. There is no collective answer to this from MGTOW, each person has their own perspective and view on things. I think you'll have a hard time writing paper about us, in this context. So like the other person above me said "make shit up" or pick an easier topic than this

Rings - provided by the man to signal his ability as a provider. If not expensive enough, conflict ensues. If too expensive, financial troubles ensue, resulting in a swift divorce.

Wedding dress - 'cause the whole wedding is all about the bride. No one may look more important then her. All attention needs to be focused there.

The whole concept of a marriage is in my opinion flawed these days. With no fault divorce the social side of that contract is no longer permanent. However, the financial side very often is - and as such marriage is no longer a good deal for whoever is the primary provider. Most often still, the man. Men have grown wise to this, which is why the marriage rates have been in a steady decline for years, along with the birthrates.

As it stands, marriage is nothing more then a lifelong financial contract where the one who earns the most offers to provide for the other party. A bad deal which only those acting on emotion will go for.

The origin is from ancient prisoner restraint methods -- approximately around the late middle ages, prisoners wore a heavy metal ball attached by a chain on their legs, to prevent them from making a run for their freedom (or at least, that is the way medieval prisoners are often depicted in modern popular culture).

The allusion is that one's wife will not let one go anywhere (mostly meant as "go out", rather than "run away from her"), much like the ball and chain.

I would argue that we just see things in a more realistic way than others, not that we have a claim on reality but we simply point out the obvious for most men (and what alot of men dont dare to say). So for example a wedding ring, most would argue that it is a symbol of love and servitude towards each other, mgtow definition: a very expensive piece of metal with some carbon on top, it has no real value other than what consumers put on it, i'd rather pay of my home or other thing I actually derive measurable pleassure from then a wedding ring. If a ring is cheap (which most women will not accept) then it is just a status symbol based on certain norms which I do not really care for. Wedding, most people a romantic festivitiy were people express love, mogtow definition: A very expensive time consuming activity to show your worth to the women you are marrying and everyone around to lift up your social status, again rather spend that money (average american wedding is around 20 grand) on something meassurable, for example if I would have kids a college fund ect ect. So we do not necessarily see them as different symbol but we just void them of any symbolic meaning (to be fair I think most men do but they are afraid that if they say that they are deemed unworthy).
