I worked in IT for many years doing programming and network administration. I was passed over for promotion multiple times, but the money was good and I liked what I did, so I stayed. I ended up getting downsized and couldn't find another IT job.

Luckily, my college required us to take some business electives to get our degree, so I had some accounting credits which helped me land a low level job in an accounting department. Some of the staff are older and will be retiring in the near future, so I'm taking some additional accounting classes online so I can get a shot at one of those jobs once they leave. It was one of them who suggested I do that because he thought I was good at my job and even without the credits, could be a full accountant based on ability alone, but HR wouldn't allow it without the credits.

One commonality I found between IT and accounting is in programming, one can spend hours and hours pouring over hundreds of lines of code trying to find out why the program isn't producing the right answers or is just crashing altogether, only to find out one wrong character in a single line of code is to blame. In accounting, it's pouring over hundreds of transactions to try to find out why everything is out of balance when it could be the same thing, a wrong number in one transaction, a decimal point that wasn't moved, or the correct figure posted to the wrong account.

Neither are glamorous or physically demanding, but they can take their toll on you mentally.

Why do women keep thinking that programming is some kind of miraclous job where you only talk about star wars for 7 hours and actually work only for one like on TV?

Its pretty demanding and if shit goes south you can be stuck on one line for an entire day getting no work done basically

They do know programming isn't like what they see on Silicon Valley or tech shows that are more focused on entertainment than the reality of programming right? Large stretches of programming is just you , the computer, and hours of initializing and declaring variables, organizing and setting your functions, and created Data structures to handle whatever data you are getting .

Sure it's not the most physically intense work but if you can't spend hours upon hours problem solving and structuring something Programming also isn't a glamorous job.

I know numerous men who can't sit through a single simple programming tutorial and we expect a wave of women to do it ? lol

Well, at least she's honest. She's just saying what women are thinking but are usually scared to admit openly. Keep thinking that, I own my rig and net 2-3 a week without breaking a sweat. I spend a lot of my free time investing in the various grows in the state. I guarantee that this is not going to happen. Rather vast army of female average engineers who will do nothing at work -- just do some ordinary work but true and hard, smart work will still be done by men. I've seen this in every company I went. Men, not all men, are the hardest, smartest and creative workers. You can not beat a man in hard-work. Most women just occupy paper-flipping, managerial and easy work earning more than most men sometimes. A paradox of nature itself. I see for few men who are smart this is going to be good opportunity. If they have very good skill and negotiation ability, they can command premium and even earn vast wealth. Remember for men work is a necessity; for women work is optional. This is a informal contract between sexes ever since it was created. It is not going to change anytime soon. For men, work is mandatory and necessity. He is judged by what he can contribute as a provider. For women, she is not judged by what she can contribute but how she looks and is fit for reproduction. This basic equation is not going to change mysteriously in 100 years or more so.

Nigga, do you want those jobs? It's obvious that they are saying, "Out of the jobs that we want we are disproportionately underrepresented." The thing is that they are perceiving that women actually want those jobs. I think they're incorrect but how is this particular for women? They're also incorrect about being disproportionately underrepresented. But being incorrect isn't a state of being that is exclusive to females. How about the men that are incorrect also?
