Actually my buddy was just starting to see this girl back in the early eighties who's father taught at Carnegie Mellon University. She had just graduated from a local liberal arts college in the area. If I remember he didn't go out with her for more than a few dates.

We were out one weekend night and some random guy started to hit on her pretty hard and she shut his ass down in 60 seconds. He asked her what she did for a living and she said oh I'm still in school. Where do you go and what year are you in? She said I graduated last year from CMU but I'm in Grad school working on my PhD. He asked what's your PhD was going to be in? She said Astro Physics and I'm working on my thesis which is Nuclear Propulsion theory for space travel.

He had that Oh Shit look on his face like I'm so out of my league with this girl. He said something like that's great, well nice to meet you and bailed.

When he left all the guys were howling over how easily she pulled that one off. She said that line works every time when she wants to get rid of someone hitting on her. She knew enough lingo from being around her dad that she could pull it off convincingly.

I travel with three laptops. Two are cloned duplicates for resiliency. In practice both are up and running with one for presenting and the other for keeping up with email and such without being projected to the group. The third is a touch screen used for drawing into the meeting instead of using a whiteboard.

If one were working classified projects, then I could see where separate devices might be used to impose physical segregation between data sets.

But what do I know? Perhaps there is some reason for a person that actually works astrophysics and AI to maintain separate PCs for each of the two tasks. Seems to me it would be better to use a single computer that does both with a second clone to ensure that data and programs are always available in a timely fashion.

The fact that she needs two different laptops for such a superfluous reason is… telling. The two subjects are not mutually exclusive.

If you really needed heavy lifting in a laptop, go for a Eurocom Panther 5SE with a Xeon E5-2697 that has 12 cores and 24 threads, 32Gb of RAM, and multiple SLI-connected 8Gb nVidia GTX 980M graphics cards. It even does on-board RAID-10 with 4 drives. And it still has room for an optical drive!
