Sometimes as a younger male I wonder if it really was like this at all? I'll always have to assume it was, and AWALT no matter what, but damn at least back then half of the bullshit was only getting started.

College in the '80s here, had a girlfriend freshman and sophomore years, she'd go home most weekends while I stayed on campus in the dorm, I went to campus parties on the weekends and would often hook-up.

The biggest fear the day after was having the hookup girl think relationship. That's why I'd tell them the night before I have a girlfriend, many times when I'd say that to them, they'd say, "I know" or "I don't care" until the next morning when they'd start thinking it was more than a hookup.

There wasn't any sense of a general undercurrent of hatred, mistrust or fear toward men; i.e., feminism. If there were gender studies or classes, I'd never heard of them.

We did not have any training about dating, date rape, no means no, sensitivity or whatever. For the most part, we were treated like young adults, accountable for our own actions by the college administration. I don't remember any stories or rumors of rape on campus. This was a small private college in MA.
