Here's on that confuses me. I've been working in a tattoo shop for the past almost ten years. Besides countless other fun girl gripes, one that's been getting to me lately is the upside down tattoo.

For those unfamiliar with tattooing, allow me to elaborate. Say, for example, you're getting a tattoo of a stick man on your arm. Hell, lets make that stick man out of straw, just for arguments sake. So, a traditionally proper tattoo would have this "straw man" standing like we stand. His feet pointing at the tattooed person's feet, and his head toward the tattooed person's head. They'd match. Like if the person who got the tattoo was just standing there prone, the tattooed "straw man" would be standing with his feet pointing at the ground and his head pointing at the sky. If you had a tattoo of a flower, the stem would be pointing at the ground, instead of at the sky, etc.

But a whole lot, I wanna say 30-40% of women and girls want their tattoo upside down. Most of them can be talked into turning it the right way, but many still refuse and end up leaving with an upside down tattoo.

Their reasoning? Because "it's for me." Which gives me cognitive dissonance because of course it's for them, but it isn't reeaaaally for them, because well come on we know why. Wouldn't you think the shame of having an "upside down" tattoo would outweigh the strong woman grl pwr "it's for me" gullshit?

It's been driving me nuts for years. I don't get it.
