In high school a cute girl suddenly became extra friendly with me. She would spend most of the day with me, and in class would always sit next to me, hug me, caress my hair and scalp, and flirt with me endlessly. At the same time however she was repeatedly trying to get in with another guy in my grade who was far more popular than me, far more confident, far more cocky, and overall – a douche who treated her like shit and ignored her. For months on end she treated me excessively flirtatiously, but whenever I asked her out or offered to come over to her house on the weekend, she would change the topic or look at me as if she misunderstood what I meant. Eventually I realized that I couldn’t appeal to her with words, so I chose actions. One night at the school disco I planned to make my move. Seeing her from a distance, I made my way to the mosh pit of the dancefloor. Being a traditionally conservative and sexually-repressed girl from a Christian school I could see that she had made a roundabout turn over the past six months since coming to the school. She was dressed extremely whore-ishly on this particular night, and my blood was pumping. Making my way to the centre of the dancefloor I noticed that all of a sudden a tall guy with a hood concealing his features started to approach her. I didn’t recognize the guy so he was probably an intruder – occasionally older guys who had already graduated, or other guys from the community would break past the lax security and make their way in for some fresh young girls. It didn’t take long before the guy started smooching my crush and before I had even reached the mosh pit, I was leaving in annoyance. Days later I decided to pull her aside and ask one more time if she wanted to go out and spend some time together on the weekend. My intentions were quite clear once again, but seeing as I was persistent she decided to tell me the truth – we were really good friends but nothing else. In essence, I was an emotionally-supportive Beta who would never get with her. She was saving herself for the Alpha jerks. We rarely spoke after this, and I went my own way.
