Perhaps this is merely my perspective, but all the guys at the office (who are all married, mind you) are constantly bullying each other to conform. Buy this car, buy this game console, buy this game, go to this bar -- now, buy this car, and this game console, and this game, now go to this bar.

Buy these games/consoles that will only get played once, buy "x" that will only be used once, buy this appliance, buy this, buy that. I find it all sooooo wasteful...!!!

I have my Camry, it's reliable, no need to replace it.

I have my computer for gaming, media, etc--no need to replace it.

I don't need a robot vacuum, I clean the house without one just fine.

And if you don't waste money when the group decides on the next purchase? You're "othered" until they forget.
