why do men dominate engineering and science?

male and female brains are hardwired differently. Men have more Spatial reasoning and problem solving abilities. They are generally more creative. I remember a study that showed bell curves for IQ for men and women. There were more women concentrated at the average of 100. On the extremes of low IQ and high IQ there were far more men than women. So, there are far more male imbeciles and geniouses in the human population than there are female. There are of course outliers. I was an engineer (now retired) and have a fairly high aptitude for math and science. I once dated a woman who was getting her graduate degree in math and the high level math she was studying (and very good at) was far beyond what my brain could comprehend

Because chess involves logic rather than emotion.

Furthermore, great chess players practice and that involves willing and losing. Something women are incapable of accepting, because feeelz!

There are no hashtag campaigns, quotas, heforshe, or any other handouts for chess.

Men do war better than women. Men do football better than women. Men do chess better than women. All of these require tactical thinking and strategic thinking. I wonder how many women could have pulled off the Pearl Harbor planning--- or considered, as Admiral Yamamoto did, what the likely outcome of that attack was likely to be?

(Note: Yamamoto feared what did in fact happen. Pearl was a brilliant tactical victory--- and a terrible strategic decision. Japan's inevitable defeat was guaranteed at Pearl Harbor.)

I don't see the point in lauding yourself as if it was ever doubted that men are superior to women in certain areas. I think all of this strutting and unnecessary self-affirmation is irritating.

Is this thread supposed to say that we needed evidence that men excel at certain areas that women do not? Then I've certainly learned a lot today.
