I was thinking about marriage and how outdated it is. Women these days want a man that not only pays for at the very least half of the home expenses, but does his fair share of home chores, etc etc. Why does he owe her half of his earnings during marriage after they split? That is only justifiable when the woman supported the man in some way that she was at a loss while the man concentrated on earning the money.

In a modern marriage if both are contributing equally to the expenses and chores of the home, each should be entitled to their own earnings after a split and nothing should be due to any partner.

I think that most of the marriages out there aren't even as egalitarian, women tend to get supported financially much more than men in marriages, and yet they are entitled to half the earnings and in some places alimony. That is without even involving offspring.

Am I on the right track at all about this?
