I feel it's too early to be having this discussion. And so I'm going to have to really burst your bubble. The news isn't good.

So far I haven't yet seen any serious attempt to merge real doll static type of technology with dumb robotics. And that's really the first conversation we should be having.

But the task of making that doll move realistically even if it was in a preprogrammed routine is really animatronix. I am not sure if we have the technology for this. Using existing robotics we'll end up with a toy that weighs too much, and has a really terrible battery life. In addition the sound it produces would completely kill the experience.

I'm not even talking about AI for the ability to have a conversation. All I'm talking about is getting a static doll to move around realistically.

Right now things are looking primitive and no matter what this low tech will always just be primitive bullshit.

Instead, and now I'm looking possibly a full 1000 years into the future if mankind survives that long, what needs to happen is the inclusion of biological components. Simply put we need to grow bodies in labs and program the brains or "upload personalities" to fully fledged proper humans. Basically what I'm talking about is the Stepford wife. These preprogrammed units will be every fit as functional as a real woman because they are in fact the genuine article. While you're at work they'll be cleaning your place, etc. Taking care of tasks you otherwise would have to do alone, eg: Your accounting, shopping etc. Unlike regular humans with cravings, wants and desires, these bots would keep strict diet regimes, would exercise to a metronome and always be in peak physical condition. As for getting sick etc, while not a regular thing they would from time to time succumb to things like colds and flu. They would not have periods because they would not have gestation cycles.

For all of this to happen a few things need to take place.

Radical improvement in cloning and bio engineering
Subjective morality needing to take vast leaps. Right now even basic shit like stem cell research is considered taboo, as you can see it might take a full 1000 years even with so called liberal feminists at the helm to get to the point where we are cloning humans and creating tailor made companions.
We need to vastly improve our understanding of the human brain, because ultimately we need to create flawless machine learning routines. But it could be that we naturally work with the existing personality in the bot and learn only to control certain aspects of its behavior.

So yeah as I said sorry to pop the balloon but there is no hope in hell of any of this happening in our life times.
