Well she has basic biology working against her to some extent. At birth the mother experiences an oxytocin rush that binds her to the newborn (and vice versa). And rightly so, what would happen if the newborn was left unattended? The species would die out.

There is a reason surrogate mothers are not allowed to see the baby during and after birth.

This is also the reason why it is preferable that mothers and fathers see the child as soon as possible after birth, so the child can recognize who is who..
