If you're going to donate charitably, donate time instead of cash. You're time allows you to gauge how worthy the organization is, and also allows you to cancel your gift at any time if you see things you can't support.

Give to yourself and leave something on your death bed.

Most charitable donations just go to pay for getting more donations. Charities are a business model based on selling emotions.

In life there's many times you might be in a wanting situation and those resources won't be there since you gave them away.

Hold your resources for you and you alone, and when you no longer will need them, then give them away if you wish.

Of course, this completely doesn't answer your question. I can't think of anything to donate to, and when I was young and stupid I used to do all sort of charity work, like physically volunteering, not give money. You should look into that as that's actual help vs. just giving people money they'll just spend however they wish.

One that actually does fairly well with money and does try to actually help for, that I've volunteered for before, is in the U.S. the Salvation Army. Sure, they're religious, and I'm an atheist, but I can recognize charities that do things, vs. not do things. Primarily because they run their organization in a military fashion of getting results done.

But still, no money transfer took place, just volunteering. A much better use of a "donation" as giving money tends to be wasted and decreases your resources.

I donate a few thousand to a local charitable foundation every year. Their overhead is low and their spending is transparent. Do your research before giving.

I donate time to causes that have zero overhead because everything is ran through volunteers, ranging from school to Christmas.

Lastly, when going out to eat, or have some service provided, I always tip well. It’s rare I run into someone that gives zero shits and fails to serve you appropriately.

Directly to homeless men. They appreciate it, there's no middle men, you know exactly where the money is going.

"Hey buddy, good luck, hope this helps." and a $20 bill to an actual person. #feelsgoodman.

My city food banks helped my ass out many years ago so I donate $15 every once in a while and that comes out to $75 of groceries according to the letter I receive.

Animal shelters or wildlife rescues. Donate in supplies and not currency.

SPCA usually asks for kitten formula or whatever. It’s still a feel good and a tax write off.

And I know where my money goes when I donate to a local waterfowl rescue.

If you're not doing this for tax purposes, I'd just give money to any homeless person or tip people for service which was beyond their obligation. At least that money will buy what it's worth compared to funding some exec's lifestyle.
