He's actually quite spot on. That's how we females tend to do, we are very indirect and worry about feelings too much, and ended up causing more misunderstandings.

Basically we fail to communicate effectively.

There’s some truth to it. The thing that really made sense to me was that men tend to want to solve a problem, but women just want to vent. So there are times when you might be trying to help, but are actually making things worse. She will interpret it as you being insensitive.

The thing that bothers me is that it seems like it’s always on us, as men, to alter our behavior and it’s never the other way around. It just seems backwards because men tend to have simple desires and women are said to be better socially, so wouldn’t it be easier for them?

There is some truth to that, but it doesn’t really matter, because the core problem is that what women truly want is: “More” or “Something different”, which are the simple definition of their sexual instinct (hypergamy and dual mating strategy) there you have it, women want undefined pronouns for an endless unhappiness, impossible to resolve, our ancestors decided that they should shut up or lose the talking head, the wisdom.

I never read that book, but the title itself is deeply flawed. The differences and interactions between men and women exist precisely because they are both from Earth and have co-evolved in response to each other. They aren't from different worlds. It's an evolutionary arms race between genes that currently find themselves in a male host and ones that currently find themselves in a female one, both knowing that they will find themselves in the other shortly.

"You never spend time with me" obviously means "I wish you would spend more time with me". There is no misinterpretation there. In fact, the frustrations of male/female relations do not and have never come from mere misinterpretation. Yes, you have to communicate well with a life partner or anyone you work with, but that's not the fundamental problem.

The real problem is that there are very deep conflicts of interest between men and women. These conflicts of interest provide great temptation for each party to defect (betray) the other and that kills cooperation. See game theory. Today's environment has removed all the costs of defection for women, and so they defect as the norm. Unless either the costs are increased or the benefits eliminated, women will continue to defect indefinitely. And any cost must be immediate as women are terrible at planning long term.

In any case, there are changes in our society over the past 60 years that have made marriage basically a terrible deal and unacceptable risk for men. That's not going to change for decades at least, so it's best to just ignore the entire game and enjoy single life as much as possible. You as an individual have no influence on the mating market or society at large. Don't waste you time trying to change the environment. Just make the best you can out of it.
