I keep hearing that 75% of all marriages end in divorce. I've heard Coach Greg Adams say it, and I just heard Tim Patten say it. Both of them state it as if it is undeniable fact, and yet I haven't been able to find any stats to back it up. The usual divorce stats you hear are much lower (40 to 50%).

Where is the 75% figure coming from? Are they including second and third marriages? Is that why it is skewing higher? Can anyone provide any links to actual research or data showing that 75% of marriages end in divorce?
