In the modern society, the only skills that I consider really essential are:

Financial literacy. Spend less than you earn. Don't borrow money for bullshit reasons (payday loans, credit card debt, financing a car). Have an emergency fund and invest long-term savings. Find good rates on loans and investments.
Computer/information literacy. Be able to pick devices that will work well and last you a long time. Be able to maintain your own devices. Don't be one hard drive failure or one lost device away from losing irreplaceable data. Don't be the guy who has to pay hunreds of dollars to recover data from their phone if it breaks.
Basic social skills. No need to be able to manipulate anyone into doing what you want, just be able to talk to people normally.

Everything else is entirely optional and depends on your lifestyle and life goals.

The ability to be willing to learn. Too many people don’t want to learn anything new. All the skills are out there if you want to learn them. It just takes effort.

How to read/listen critically. How to think logically. Basic rhetoric.

Too much bullshit being pointed our way: a man needs to be able to separate the useful and important from everything else and then he needs to be able to figure out how best to use it.

(Also, basic home repair stuff: carpentry, plumbing, drywall, roofing, wiring - enough to do the minor jobs and to know when to step back and pay a professional for the major jobs.)
