The problem is defining the term "feminism". I'm a feminist according to the dictionary definition. But the term gets used in a lot of settings where the dictionary definition doesn't apply.

Here's an example:

"Glaciers, gender, and science: A feminist glaciology framework for global environmental change research"

Merging feminist postcolonial science studies and feminist political ecology, the feminist glaciology framework generates robust analysis of gender, power, and epistemologies in dynamic social-ecological systems, thereby leading to more just and equitable science and human-ice interactions.

As far as I know, the above is not a parody. Academia has made a wrong turn somewhere.

I think it's very important to lay out an ethnographic disclaimer. There are still parts of the world where the idea of a patriarchy is an incredibly real and terrifying thing - places where women are genuinely seen as sub-human property. In Saudi Arabia they cannot travel anywhere without express consent and signed permission from their fathers or husbands, so it's practically impossible to even escape their circumstances or seek asylum elsewhere. There are countries where child marriage is still practiced and women are married away well before their teens, and if they happen to become widows, they are burned on the funeral pyres of their husbands, or they have their heads shaved and are sent away to confined communes to live the rest of their lives in solitude and forced mourning. There are places where female infanticide is still practiced purely because parents don't want to have to deal with the inevitable price of a dowry. That shit is insane.

Having said that, there is absolutely no such thing as a patriarchy in the modern civilized western world, and thus there is absolutely no need for a delusional movement like feminism. In the West, it has just devolved to a pseudo-political movement that people use to feel "empowered". Men use the label to make themselves more affable and approachable, and women use the label to justify their general incompetence. When incompetent people are faced with the reality of their incompetence, it is easier to blame it on systemic oppression than to simply acknowledge that even in system of equal opportunity, they cannot ensure equal outcome because they're just not good enough.

It is easier to say that a big bad lecherous man is the reason you majored in "ethnomusicology" or "gender in film studies" and now can't find a job. It's easier to blame the patriarchy for the fact that everyone else who studied boring tedious miserable shit and clawed their way to the top of their fields through rigorous dedication and perseverance is now rich, successful and attractive.

It's just tragic that not a single one of the loud-mouthed purple-haired land-whale feminists of the Western world would have ever donated a single penny to a charity that actually fights for equal rights for women in the third world. They'll talk about girl power one second, and the next, bully and tear down other women on the basis of their clothes or makeup. The majority of slut-shaming is perpetuated by women. Men LOVE sluts! There's absolutely no negative stigma to that word. But that's what the modern feminist does. Because they have no idea what they're fighting for.

On the surface, feminism sounds wonderful - banishing the archaic social constructs where mainly men shoulder the burdens of civilization and getting men to realize the potential of women in a variety of roles but instead of being an asset and coming together in partnership, feminism has become more of a divisive element and thus a tool of the elite.

One problem is that instead of giving women advice and role models on how to be a complete person, feminism says women are great just because, that men are the root of all their problems, and that femininity is to be despised so you have all these women acting like men but in the worst way as they indulge in narcissism and victimhood while hating men.
