TL;DR I'm going to write a screenplay, and it will be for ME, not to attract a woman.
I've long considered trying my hand at screenwriting. Of course, there are a zillion screenplays out there, more than the movie studios could ever produce, and many of them are terrible. The truth is, just because you write something does not obligate anyone else to like it, and it certainly doesn't obligate anyone to invest a bunch of money into turning it into a movie.
Them's the cold-hard facts. You could spend a bunch of time writing something and really not get anywhere with it. It's a risk to take. However, I have had some success with playwriting. I've won two playwriting contests and have had my work performed onstage. I became skilled at playwriting by doing it a lot. I started out by writing meandering plays that frankly were not very good. I was part of a playwriting organization where you could do a reading of your plays. You would have actors read your script and act it out, and then the audience gives you feedback. Even before the feedback, I could tell what wasn't working with a particular script. I studied this shit hard. I found books written by people who were good at the craft, and I learned what makes a play “stageworthy,” in other words what makes a story interesting and how to tell it in a way that works onstage.
I worked HARD to have any success at all with playwriting. But now when I read or watch any story, I immediately know why it's a good story or not and why. There are a whole host of reasons why Breaking Bad was a great drama that held people spellbound and why Heil, Honey, I'm Home was total crap that immediately got canceled.
Movies are a way different medium than stage plays, so I've got some things to learn on how to make a good story work on film. But I believe I can do it, and the experience with playwriting will help me. Plus, I'm not arrogant enough to think that anything I write is automatically great. (Don't laugh. There are would-be writers who are exactly like that.)
I believe I have the ability and the determination to see this through and succeed at this. I don't have any expectations of it being easy. I know I'll need to learn this craft that is similar to playwriting, but fundamentally different in many ways.
Prior to going MGTOW, I was all caught up in what women think of me and afraid of them judging me. Now that I don't give a FLYING FUCK what they think, I can just dive into the screenwriting. In fact, it was because of a woman that I quit playwriting. I'm kicking myself for that. But what happened was I was elated at winning a playwriting competition, and the theater involved me in the production of my play. And it was a good play that actors wanted to be in. That gave me a ton of social proof with the leading actress who was cast, and she and I got together. However, soon as the elation of getting with the playwright wore off, she realized I wasn't rich and worked a normal job, and so she bailed on me. She had been waiting at the finish line. I crossed first by winning the competition out of 1200 other entries, but I wasn't anywhere near first financially. That was a hard pill to swallow, that someone would be that into me and then suddenly bail due to money. I kept seeing that shitty behavior by women.
Now, I live by a huge dose of “don't give a fuck.” Writing a screenplay will be for ME. This success will be to enhance my life, and will not be one iota about attracting women. I don't care whether women want me. I care about doing things in my life that fulfill me. It was great to see my work performed onstage. I've never had that experience of having it performed on film, but I want that. If that ends up attracting a woman, the most that MIGHT happen is a roll in the hay (with protection), but ain't no woman reeling me into the marriage thing.
So wish me luck. Writing and selling a screenplay is not an easy task, but I believe I can do it.
