So, funny moment here.

I am 38, and I don't know if I can call it a midlife crisis moment, but I am at a loss as to what I could call it.

All of a sudden, my brain just whispers a notion into my consciousness, and I literally have an internal conversation with myself.

Brain; Psssst! Hey, I got a great idea?

Me; Okay, what?

Brain; You should buy a motorcycle, yeah!

Me; What? Why would I want to do that? I don't even know how to ride a motorcycle!

Brain; You can learn, its easy! You want a motorcycle!

Me; What is this? Where did this come from? You do remember that I work with Level one Trauma patients, right?

Brain; Well, yeah... but a brand new Rebel 500 is under 6k! It's brand new!

Me; And you do know that we've seen our fair share of what happens to people who wreck motorcycles, yes?

Brain; That isn't gonna be you! You're awesome! And the Rebel is awesome! And just think of the adventures!

Me; Yeah! I can see it now- "How I became an organ donor!" Quiet brain! You're just having a mid-life crisis!

Brain; I am?

Me; I can't think of any other reason why someone who has literally had brain matter smeared all over his gloved hands from a motorcycle patient-turned-organ-donor would ever consider such a notion.

Brain; I still want a motorcycle.....

Me; I know, let's look at some sports cars and be satisfied that we are not paying a $40,000+ car note on something so frivolous.

I'd imagine me having so much experience with motorcycle patients/fatalities was what prevented me from doing something so illogical (accounting from personal experience) as buying a motorcycle.
I liken the unexpected and enormous desire to the state of mind someone might have as being young, and not having the life experience to know better.

So, I ask others here; is that what it is like? Will it go away? Will it get better?

Funny story, but with that resigned melancholic understanding that; youth could not last forever.
