I live in a 1200 square foot home in an old neighborhood. I drive a 1997 Ford F-250. I converted the garage into a woodshop and my companion is a hound dog.

I have a similar musing daily. Just have to figure out how to execute on it.

Always felt the situation you describe would present itself to the western world eventually, just not in my lifetime. I certainly never imagined it unfolding as quickly as it has. It's the biggest political power grab and simultaneous transfer of wealth away from the middle and lower class in modern history.

And politicians, specifically on the left though not exclusively, just casually sneak elements of our future plans into their jargon as the long slow march of progressivism through the institutions goes on unimpeded, until one day the people capable of rational thought wake up surrounded by NPC zombies who spend their days parroting tropes of statism and scientism.

And they haven't got even the slightest idea that they're licking the boots of the establishment and the aristocracy. I've asked these people what books they actually read in high school and whether they have even cracked open the constitution, and I'm being generous to call their lack of exposure to 20th century literature or modern civics alarming.

It's amazing listening to urbanites, who have never once left their urban bubbles, lecture others on virtue. I'm not some kind of Onceler who wants to chop down all the truffula trees and destroy the environment, but I'm not a radical environmentalist either. There's a concept called conservation and it was practiced long before rabid environmentalists took over the institutions. A good half of the urbanites that I speak of don't own a car or even possess a driving license, and their sole vehicular experience might be getting in a rideshare or going to the airport so they can take an expensive vacation. Yet the notion of simply driving across Nebraska is something that would never even occur to them.

Anyone who has taken such a road trip will understand my point: there is a LOT of damned land out there. There is so, so, so much of it. I use the example of driving across the vast nothingness that is Nebraska, because when I did, I wondered when it would end, and just how the fuck anyone could ever think we're even close to running out of room or opportunity. I know there is no longer an "American frontier" but you'd have second thoughts about how true that is in many parts of the country. I feel there is so much land that with some good planning, everyone in all the cities of the country could have a piece of it large enough that they could still barely see their neighbors from the front steps.

Yes there's a lot more to it than that, and I'm oversimplifying logistics and so much else, but the point is that to these people, their "planet" is the ten square miles of concrete, steel, garbage, and overpriced real estate that they call home. And it's no wonder they're fucking miserable and want it to be better. The expensive vacations they go on represent an ideal that their urban shithole actually should be, but never ever will be.

These same people fly over middle America, where opportunity is routinely abdicated, all to get somewhere else they consider more important so that they can proclaim themselves a traveler of the world. Then they come back to their glimmering metropolis on the horizon, only to be reminded of how badly it smells of rancid milk and rotting trash once there.

The wealth of the world is right underneath them but they are incapable of and/or unwilling to do anything about it. Much easier to ignore it and elect an empty suit to spend other people's money to fix a problem that they themselves have no actual interest in solving. Nobody ever said it would be easy because it isn't, but the vast majority of Americans are no longer raised to conceptualize a life that is not easy, convenient, or ideal.

Stop stalking me. That's a great approximation of my life in the past 3 months.

I moved to the middle of nowhere and it's every bit as beautiful as I thought it would be.

The mindfulness I have experienced is life changing. I get it, everybody has their own stuff to sort out. However, if the opportunity presents itself then step out of the prisons that we create for ourselves and start living like a normal human being.

Haha basically described my life... I’m in a 1200 sq ft fairly nice shack, I remodeled it myself, putting a deck, greenhouse and large workshop on this summer... drive a 1970 f250 lol... there’s plenty of room for everyone to do this... cities are obsolete now, especially since it’s be proven work from home for white collar jobs is 100% doable... ubi will be a thing shortly because of men opting out and paying less and less in taxes... they’re just going to keep printing money until the wheels fall off... it’s their only option left

have fun getting 10mpg in your shitty old truck that needs constant repairs and living in your shack bruh. y'all don't eat veggies so idk what the point of this garden would be. also if 100 million people dispersed from the city, there wouldn't be a middle of nowhere anymore.

please can we have a reality show where you people actually do this, and have to eat cabbage and lentils to survive? I would pay to see this disaster.
