I'm strongly against domestic violence as a whole, but to say that only men are the problem is ignorant. I'll never support an event or speaker that does nothing but finger point.

When I was much younger I was in a relationship where my GF at the time was the violent one. I put up with it because I was raised to think what Stewart said in this article: men are the evil ones, and women are the victims. I'm much wiser now.

Given his upbringing it's little wonder he feels the way he does. There are women who horribly abused though I can't wonder how much of that might be PTSD from the war on his dad's side not that this excuses it. But regardless, Stewart is not latching on to the issue for virtue signaling. He grew up with domestic abuse at a time when people largely ignored it.

However, the thing is we don't ignore domestic abuse of women like we used to as it is part of our social consciousness - we see it in the news, in fiction, in documentaries, self help groups, etc...

What we haven't come to grips with is the idea of women abusing men particularly emotional as we just laugh it off as part of being in a relationship. Nor are we as a whole comfortable acknowledging that lesbian relationships have a higher rate of domestic abuse than other couples because this runs contrary to the narrative of men=bad, women=victim which ironically is more of a Victorian Era concept.

If progressives want to be true progressives (ie moving forward) then they need to acknowledge all victims of domestic abuse and recognize that emotional/verbal abuse against husbands and boyfriends is not acceptable.

What isn't mentioned is the fight to end psychological manipulation which is often a weapon that women (and weak men) use to try to control the other person.. it's constant pushing, prodding, shit testing, psychological manipulation, until the other person finally explodes. Being too controlling and clingy, etc.

I don't condone domestic violence by either person, but a lot of times you don't get the real picture as to what was really going on in each situation.
