Respect is something you earn, until then i treat everyone with indifference until they prove that they are worthy of respect.
[–]adimo101 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is the same logical fallacy as people getting triggered at black lives matter. You’re not drawing your conclusion from the information that is set before you, you’re drawing your conclusion from the absence of information you wish was there. So people real black lives matter. Nothing in that phrase implies other lives don’t matter. At all. That’s not how English works. But people see that, and get mad. They get mad at the absence of all lives matter, and they wish it said that. They willfully misinterpret the phrasing.
Same here. All sons should be taught to respect women. I certainly will raise my kid to respect women and actively seek out enthusiastic consent before engaging in sexual activity. That is what a man does: his raises his sons to be men.
However, it saying “sons” and “women” is not the same as them actively excluding all other groups. In order for that to be the case there would need to be a qualifier, such ass “only sons respect women,” “sons should respect women only,” or “sons only respect women” which is how OP clearly willfully misinterpreted it to make this post. You’re reading into what’s not there.

I think your missing the point. The point is to say that you should also teach your daughter how to respect men. It's not trying to say stop teaching your son to be a good person.
[–]adimo101 1 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Thats not the whole point. The whole point is to make a statement on the alleged inequality of the statement "teach your son to respect women," the evidence for this is the fact it says that and crosses out son and women.

With equal rights, come equal lefts.
[–]Machomuk89 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Nah, teach your child to respect those who earn it.
[–]TheRepeatTautology 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That's why I barge past disabled people, they've not earned respect yet so why give it! And no, them lying on the floor, unable to get up again is certainly not going to increase that respect!
[–]mcPetersonUK 1 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Teach your daughter not to be a thot.
[–]Yami-no-Kami 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm totally on your side. I find it cringy whenever I hear about this whole "men should treat women with nothing but respect" thing in a context that represents women as those superior beings that need to be worshiped. Like hell no. I don't want to get special treatment just because I managed to be born with a hole between my legs. Furthermore I believe in such a thing as "having the same standards for everyone".
[–]datareel 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What happens when women are assaulting men? Should we teach them with respect still and not throw them in jail?
[–]trulybleedingliberal 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
We should respect them still. Men can take hits from women in general.
In this case we're dealing with a crime, that should be punished the same way, as if a man assaulted a woman.

Nobody is teaching women to not shame, lie, harass or hit other people.
[–]laptopdragon 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I would venture on the possibility that women are incapable of learning honorable traits even if they were taught.
I sure hope that's not the reality... I'll add:
Nobody is teaching women to not shame, lie, harass or hit other people.. come with consequences.

The fact it that it doesn’t for them.

Some people can carry 2 thoughts at one time. This meme is extremely lame.
[–]two-cut 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This can be extrapolated to differences of any kind. In a world where there's real equality, I should have no problem pointing out that someone is a women, or black, or a boomer or whatever else because no one should get offended. It doesn't mean anything more than that on its own. I'd like to think I treat everybody the same, but still recognize their differences.
Honestly, the fact that people keep going around and making distinctions between genders, races, generation, and whatever the next "-ism" just continues dividing people and makes it worse and worse for the next generations.
[–]Last_Patriarch 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I agree with you overall, but just for the sake of debating... Do you really treat everybody the same? And you add that you acknowledge there are differences. So no, you can't.
I think i am past such illusions : we have all our biases and experiences and that's fine. I wont treat an elderly person the same as an armed cop, etc
The concept of "equality" is the modern replacement of "love" in the christian religion. Except that the rich can love the poor and the great the mediocre, but that doesn't work with equality, because it removes any notion of value. Moreover, what was "equality of civil rights" became "intrinsic equality in value".
That modern ideology is responsible for all the problems in society : you can't have moral values and a system based on Truth, etc if everyone can do and say anything and "it's alright".
I keep "equality" for the maths. In life it's all about "equity".
No you're right. Distinction: you can't treat everyone the same, they're different and by definition not equal. You can give them equal respect, though whether or not they deserve it is another discussion entirely

Same as saying "All Lives Matter."
Yes. I thought the goal of BLM was to bring people together?
By using "BLACK LIVES MATTER" they cause confusion and a divide.
"ALL LIVES MATTER" is easy to understand and everybody can get behind it.
[–]totallossguy 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The only people who believe that saying something like “Black lives matter” is divisive are small minded fucks that want to make the wholesale murder of people of color about themselves.
[–]Aakash050 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
BLM is 100% radical extremism and political trickery. It is a lie that is being perpetuated so the organizers can make money. It is entirely built on lies.
It was a Marxist revolutionary movement from the very start. It is a communist organization, their own website will tell you this.
BLM does not care one wit for black on black murders in Chicago... 18 killed in one weekend. BLM has never had nothing to do with saving black lives.
BLM is like feminism, where they feign egalitarian vaIues as they actively campaign against white men.
[–]totallossguy 0 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Your worldview is fucked.
Do all lives matter?
The only people trying to cause a divide with BLM are racist Fucks that will use any bullshit tactic to discredit the movement. BLM is doing one thing and the ALM is trying to do another thing. You wouldn’t want to stop fighting to find a cure for cancer just because heart disease affects more people. The BLM is not divisive in the exact same way finding a cure for cancer is divisive. There will always be opinions on what “good act” is better. In your case you believe ALM is more important than BLM. That’s fine. ALM and cops murder people of all race, sex, and creed. The ALM is a great movement, but it should not be used as a counter protest for BLM. BLM does not mean only BLM.
I couldn't find the original posts on this issue so here's another one.
I don't get how a house on fire translate to everybody matters.
[–]nordicpolarbear 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The difference is-blacks have actually been oppressed for a long time and women have always been privileged. So no, it’s actually the opposite
Blacks make up approximately 13% of the US population while they commit 52% of crime. In 2013 according to the FBI, 93% of black homicide victims were killed by other black people.
[–]UncontainedOne 1 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Spotted the racist.
[–]Aakash050 1 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Facts are now racist?
[–]B4K3R245 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It's actually the opposite yet again, blacks have more privileges if anything: Affirmative action, college can be free, etc.
[–]v3ctorns1mon 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
But will you ever change a society by holding the aggrieved group at a pedestal? It's dumb and ineffective tbh. I would resonate with something that addresses racism but not superficial slogan like BLM.
[–]gumball4000 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It’s just two different unrelated comments and people need to calm down
All lives matter - correct Black lives matter - correct
[–]omen_tenebris 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
no lives matter *heavy metal music starts*
[–]Impossible-asset 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I dont have a problem with that saying at all, except im on the ipposite of the field saying "no lives matter".
Basically from full metal jacket "here you are all equally worthless"
everyone ... those who earn it.
[–]Noob_in_Dating 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
To be honest it should be,
Teach your child how to be civil around people because respect is not something that can be given to everyone then it will have no value. Respect is earned.
[–]DashingWolf 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Egalitarian? You mean that word that all social groups that are large, medium-large, and small say they are, but is not? They one word that any social group could use and if all used and practiced they would achieve more quickly what they say they want publicly. Yeah, not gonna happen in our lifetime.
[–]x3r0x_x3n0n 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Bugger off respect is earned.
[–]Master_Coconut 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I prefer the colder approach: that respect is earned, value is proven, and time is the greatest gift of all - such that nobody gets any of mine unless it's of benefit to me in some way
[–]ManofGod1000 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No, teach respect, not equality. I am a runner and there are plenty of people that are not equivalent to my abilities and never will be? So, what, I should just slow down so they will be equal with me?
Equal opportunity for everyone, yes but, not equal outcome.
[–]Poofysmoof 1 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I’ve raised my children to go in with people with a open mind. In that regard only respect those who give you respect. Be quick about it, I go from Mr Rogers to full blown aggressive in a heartbeat. If they are an asshole to someone they don’t know, they are probably an asshole.
