You can find lots of videos such as the following examples exposing "Instagram versus real life" which is about how people airbrush their photos and create fake "perfect lives" to present on sites like Instagram. The question that I have about all this that I've never seen discussed is why does Instagram fakery keep working when everyone knows it fake?

The only answer I can think of is that people need to believe that there are superior people ever so close to them on Instagram because it gives them hope. I guess the hope is you can get in contact with these superior people and consequently become more like them. That's crazy enough, but when you realize that everyone knows the "superior" aspect is a con and an illusion, it's completely insane.
