The issue of fidelty vs infidelity is an interesting one. The greatest issue of infidelity on a surface level is like most things it seen as gender neutral, or male vs female infidelity are equal. This is not true, like all things in male female dynamics the genders are different and not interchangeable. Not directly talking about a current issue, but rather about small posts here and there over time I've seen men here express views that highlight this false notion of equality with male female infidelity.

I'm going to hit on why its different, and when it can be viewed as neutral. It's different because woman bare seed. It's is not fair or right to tax the resources of a man (husband) to support another man's progeney. Now, we live in a fantastic modern world where second marriages are common and men willing marry a woman who has kids. This is different, its a willful decision on his part. Yes, we have constructs too, such as child support to require some resources from other father. There is more depth that could be gone into on this area of the topic alone. However, I'll stick to the main point.

Ancient cultures, and the origin of the word adultery only applied when a woman strayed exactly for this reason. It was not simply that she stepped out of a vow, but now could be requiring another man to have an heir to his line that is not his own and not by choice. If a man steps out and sires children from another woman, there is the issue of him dividing his resources from his primary source to a secondary, and this becomes a legitimate gripe for the wife however, its his responsibility to then ensure he provides well.

Now, as to the issue of neutrality, one can view female infidelity as more neutral when its clear no pregnancy has occurred around during that window. In which case the primary harm done is on a moral\ego\emotional level. The bottom line its not mysognist to have what some would call a double standard, which it in fact is not. It's not a double standard, as men and woman are in fact different, it is two standards.
