Picked up my wife last night from school, and started by asking her how her day was. She had started her day giving a classmate a ride before I woke up, and had told me the story before I left for school. So now she starts telling me about the same story. She seems happy and we're joking around a bit as well. It goes on for a few minutes until I realize that she's not telling me anything she didn't tell me earlier. So I tell her that she's already told me all this before, and she ignores this and continues the story anyways. I decide that this is a hill I'm going to die on, and the following ensues.. (For context, I've always had a problem with her repeating stories to me. It gets annoying and feels like she's using me as an emotional tampon.)

For example, your entire first paragraph has your wife as the primary actor for more than 50% of it. Who gives a shit? Obviously you do. Unfortunately, I don't.

An assertive "Hey, you already told me that" followed by you changing the subject would have avoided all that drama.

Honestly as someone who repeats stories all the time I hate it when people who tell me you already told me that. Just tell in a nice way that you recall and I'll move on. Don't get all bent out of shape because she has a personality Quirk dude. I'm sure you got your own shit to handle as well.
