It’s a tough position to be in. When my wife was pregnant I learned that the amount of calories burned to grow a baby is comparable to running a marathon. Every day. So she was exhausted a lot. And I was exhausted a lot. Communication is key in any successful relationship.

I would start by sitting your fiancé down and saying what you’ve said in this post about how you’re feeling. Remember to use ‘I’ statements and not ‘you’ statements. Like you did in your post. I’m a part of this. I’m human too. And hopefully she’s understanding.

It’s also important to remember that pregnancy is temporary and it’s gonna get a lot harder when the baby comes. Like a lot harder. Like no amount of talking from anyone could have prepared me for how hard raising kids is.

Hey man, I feel you. My baby is literally going to be born in less than 24 hours. We obviously need to recognize and support through the hell the woman goes through, but I also wish the dads struggles were more recognized. I’ve been doing triple the housework I normally do. I’ve been working more to finish up a project so I can take paternity leave. When she doesn’t sleep, neither do I. Nobody asks how I am doing.

The biggest thing I’d recommend is talking with her about how you’re feeling. Soften it up a bit so it doesn’t sound like you’re downplaying her experience or blaming her. Maybe discuss having a set “you time” every week, where you can just put the pregnancy out of your mind. Like play video games, watch a movie, or go out with friends.

If you have any friends who are dads, reach out to them. They’ve felt what you are feeling right now. They may not be thinking to ask how you’re doing, but that doesn’t mean they don’t care. Sometimes you gotta reach out for help on your own.

I also wanna state that men also go through postpartum depression too. So like an earlier comment said, if you have friends who are dad maybe even coworkers who are fathers talk to them. Because after the baby is born, your mental state my take a dive after the baby's born. When my friend was having a kid, his doctor said mom should have someone checking in on her and dad should too. And I was the person he asked to keep checking on him.

Sorry for the tangent. But maybe you can talk to dad's on here too. Because you're right it's not good or healthy that you're not really being taken into consideration. Have you talk to your father/grandfathers about this (if you can that is)?
