This is surprising to me in that we can't seem to have a conversation about the expectations that pertain to sex without Rape Culture coming up. I didn't learn about the "movie as code for sex" idea until I was twenty-three. The woman that told me had come over to watch a movie with me. She was shocked when I actually put in a movie, sat on the couch with her, and intently watched it.

How is that seriously rape culture? Going home to watch a movie leads rape? Sounds to me that it was insinuating that sex was expected not that it would lead to rape. People read too much into a lot of things.

What a very old-fashioned thing to worry about ... I have a fascinating collection of etchings, the cad said, twirling his mustache. A cultivated young lady like you would find them very interesting. I say, why don't you come up to my apartment now and we can look at them.

It's especially weird that people took offense given that it came from the twitter account of a lingerie maker, a business that wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the fact that human beings enjoy a certain amount of teasing, suggestiveness, and ambiguity in their sexual lives.

I'm convinced that anyone who uses the term "rape-culture" is a lonely loser who is so sexually frustrated that they feel the need to discuss other people's sex lives.
