Feminists tell men not to worry about #MeToo saying, "If you haven't done anything wrong, you won't have a problem".

I don't believe that, but it's a claim that feminists are making so we should hold them to that same standard:

"Don't worry about false accusers being prosecuted. If your accusation is true, you won't have a problem."

It seems a lot of people are avoiding the nuance to this issue.

The logic is not:

Accusation -> court -> not guilty -> woman is guilty of false accusation

No, a lot of us are OK with it being stopped there, because some rape trials just fail due to lack of evidence or other issues.

However, if it can be shown that the accusation was intentionally, knowingly false (which is a false report, wasting police time, and perjury) in order to discredit or attack a person, there needs to be repurcussions because the crimes I listed above are not being pursued.

A lot of us understand, and we still want rape victims to come forward. However, we cannot, as a society, give carte blanc to a group of people to destroy people's lives and be free of consequences.

So, in summary, not all failed rape trials should result in a punishment for a false accusation, only ones that can be shown to be malicious and intentionally false. The person would still be guaranteed habeas corpus, the right to due process, and presumed innocent until proven guilty.

I just know you're all lining up, baited breath-like, to read my opinion.

If there's no proof of actual lying, I don't think sexual assault accusers should be legally penalized - same as with rape and sexual assault. If the victim's word is the ONLY evidence, I don't think the accused should be jailed. Thus, for any person who was actually assaulted, but can't prove it, there would be no danger. The danger would exist only if there's good evidence that the person is using the law to assault another person.
