An acquaintance of mine is being failed by the systems that are.
A few years ago he foolishly fell for the "I'm on the pill, don't worry" story of a girl he was seeing, as happens, she was not on the pill and ended up getting pregnant. His own fault for not using a condom but that's that. Whilst he did not plan to have a child with her he jumped into the role of being a dad and gave his child unconditional love. He may not of wanted them initially but he grew into the role with flying colours.
In the summer of last year he appeared to have a split lip and a bit of bruising on his arms, he played this off as an accident and nothing more was said about it, however as time went on there was consistant wounds about his person and he finally confessed that she was abusing him. Anyone who heard about it believed him, and unanimously told him to go to the police but he refused for some time saying that he didnt want to lose his kid and that if that happened he would. We thought the system would be sympathetic to him, we thought there was no way this could happen, she is the abuser, the child should be protected from her just as much as him.
Well, he did go to the police in the end after documenting what was happening to him, they were split up from each other. Gut wrenchingly, what he said would happen, happened.
He hasn't been able to see his kid since just after christmas. I don't understand how someone who has been reported for domestic violence against someone she supposedly loves can be granted full control of a child because she has a vagina and the man loses all access to his kid.
Any advice I can relay?
