To answer your question, trophy wives and trophy husbands have been around for some time. It's not exactly a gendered issue. If handsome men were doomed to be in loveless marriages, they're in the company of a whole lot of other people, so I sincerely doubt this issue is harder hitting for guys with chiseled jaws and good haircuts.
