I can see where a person might be doing this to the extreme degree to keep someone from sitting next to them or bothering them, but for some men who happen to be tall, the length of their legs - specifically the distance from hip to knee - puts them within the paths of others. Spreading your knees apart keeps aisles clear without others bumping into you or tripping over feet, etc. Another way to avoid being in the ways would be to turn or angle the body 45-degrees, but it still causes a person to take up a lot of space. Some people are bigger than others. Some people hate big people for being big. (Source: I'm a 6ft+ 200 lb male w/ 36 inch inseam and size foot.)

It seems Reddit has a bot that looks for certain types of user behaviour that indicate spamming or brigading. Sometimes innocent users get shadowbanned along with the bad guys. Usually they can fix this if they contact the admins.

Carriages have been conceived in the Victorian age. Their size and heat of the seats did not change at all. With sets being so low it is more comfortable to sit with the knees slightly parted because then they will be about the heigh of your basin instead the height of your nipples.
