Hi, everybody, I think I have a unique issue. Throwaway for obvious reasons.

It started with me getting arrested on a felony warrant from another county earlier this year. I was transferred the same day to that county and have suspicions about why that happened so fast but it is a story for another day. It was not until the next morning that I learned what exactly I had been accused of at my first appearance. It should be noted that at no time was I in this county when it is alledged to have occured. The detective who arrested me also said had this been investigated in our county it wouldn't have gone anywhere and that there wasn't much of a case for a felony.

I should note that I am 20 and that prior to this arrest I had no adult record. My bond on a single F3 (Felony 3rd degree) was set in the high 5 figures and I bonded out later that day. I returned home and had an appointment with my attorney a few days later. Although I ended up talking to him almost immediately as an article had been written about me by a school newspaper of a college I had left the year before and a story run on the evening news. I should note that the school newspaper and the local news station are not connected and that the school newspaper copy pasted from the evening news write up. My attorney rightfully insisted we not respond and direct all questions from the media to his office.

Then it got creepy. The school newspaper has continued to fun articles. One where I pled not guilty, one about protecting yourself from crime where I was mentioned, and the entire narrative reproduced. At no time was I contacted or attempted contacted by any media for comment. There have been commenters on the site making indirect (i guess that is the best descriptor) threats along the lines of "I hate him" and "I wish someone would find him and take out justice as it should be." To paraphrase. Also, these articles contain information about my class year (Senior, Junior, Sophmore, etc), major, academic standing, etc. There was a statement about this info in a supplemental report during the investigation but i was told that only parties to the case and not media could access the supplemental reports.

Now the case is a misdemeanor and disposed. I will say I'm white and the campus extremely liberal and I fear backlash and harm; accusations of white privilege and such.

This paper is known for running stories about any student arrested, some for crimes as heinous as murder, rape, child porn, etc. In Florida, these are C, F1, F2, and F3. My single F3 and later 1M as it was reduced had more articles published than any of these cases. All of these other cases are recent.

I believe this paper acted maliciously; specifically that the writer who is listed in the byline of every story about me acted in a harassing matter.

There were some other issues within the case; the alleged victim is the daughter of a member of law enforcement from another county, the quick transfer which by all accounts of lawyers and LEO I know have concluded was out of the ordinary for a single charge, and the high bond.

I just wanted this to go away and was told it would. That is why we ( the defense) never responded to the media and didn't drag this out. The ASA on the case also admitted to wanting it to go away. I escaped with no jail time, no community service, nothing. The whole case was fishy. Now I don't know what to do.

Afterwards i received word that the alleged victim's father, who is a cop, is furious. Thankfully I have since moved and we don't live in the same area. I'm scared that somehow i'm going to get accused of something worse that is absolutely not true because some people think justice hasn't been served. People on this campus are known to do things like that.

Apologies for the ramble, I'll try to answer any questions you may have. My big issue is that I keep getting hounded based on a case entirely on emotion, lies, and nearly a false rape accusation.
