Actually, I'm pretty sure that men commit suicide at a rate of about four times higher than women. That's a figure from the top of my head, but it's an area I've previously studied, so I'm fairly sure of its accuracy. Of course, it varies a bit from nation to nation, but that's what the figure is for where I live. Where I am, suicides have doubled in the past three years.

You are right in that the article was completely devoid of any gender information, despite the fact that suicide does affect more men, by a wide margin. This is, of course, typical for such things. Men's health always receives a considerable backseat position to women's health. For example, breast cancer and prostate cancer kill roughly the same numbers, but breast cancer receives about double the funding and has far more media attention.

The problem of male suicide is just so poorly researched and treated. Not only do people not really do much more than notice the numbers and say, "Oh, yeah, that's kinda high," and shrug, but treatment sucks. Treatment favours women and pharmaceutical companies more than it actually benefits the men suffering, because men don't benefit from the same kinds of talk therapy the way women do. And medication is a lousy bandaid, especially when you consider that many antidepressants are known to have the added side-effect of suicidal ideation. Men benefit from support from their spouses, time spent in active recreational pursuits, and time spent with other male friends. In other words, blowjobs and golf cures everything. ;)

Some countries DO have suicide of male up to 7x higher that of females. 4x is thee average.

Yeah. <When men are the victims, it's class and race. When women are the victims, it's all about gender.

You need to be careful when talking about suicide. The numbers you see about male suicides being so much higher are successful suicides.

Women generally attempt suicide at rates up to 4x that of men, depending on which set of numbers you run from-- they just fail at it. Men just succeed at what they attempt to do more often than women.

Suicide is most definitely a genderless issue, and women are affected by it in great numbers. They just suck at it.

Equality. That's why feminists demand more pay to do "the same job as men." They're operating at a handicap and have to work way harder than men to try to get the same results.

You could not be more wrong.

You don't know what you are talking about, I have already had this discussion with others.

You are suggesting that an attempt at suicide is the same as a successful suicide.

Clearly you are a troll.

You could not be more wrong.

You could not have your head shoved up any farther up your vagina.

None of this is contested. Women attempt suicide at a greater rate than men. Men actually successfully commit suicide at a greater rate than women.

You won't find a single source that states otherwise.

Women generally attempt suicide at rates up to 4x that of men, depending on which set of numbers you run from-- they just fail at it. Men just succeed at what they attempt to do more often than women.

The difference here is three-fold. Men usually have a solid plan in place that they have considered to be the most effective way to off themselves, whereas women tend to act on a spur of the moment emotion and use whatever is at hand. Secondly, men almost always use more lethal tools, such as guns, whereas women pop pills. Thirdly, men tend to isolate themselves more effectively, while women tend to get discovered in their rooms by a concerned friend or relative comparatively quickly.
