I was listening to the BBC a few months ago and they had this story about how there are these schools in Nigeria that give boys an Islamic education. The boys are treated horribly - locked up, beaten, etc. They interviewed this dad who sent his son to one of these schools and when he heard about the abuse he took is son out of the school. His son was so brainwashed that he ran away from home to go back to the school.

The funny thing is that boko haram would stop existing if the kidnapping of boys was prevented. Yet they choose to highlight only when girls are affected.

I thought that there was no way this is true. And if you search "boko haram kidnapped boys", it actually does only bring up 10 results. at least 3 of those results are copies of this exact meme. :'(

The boys weren't kidnapped. They were shot, burned alive, and a few desperate survivors turned into boy soldiers. In every attack the girls were always released unharmed, so no one cared. "It's Africa, people die every day." So Boko Harem had to up their game and kidnap girls to get media attention.

All that focus on only women's lives with no care for those of men eventually led to women getting harmed. It's a case of female privilege backfiring on women.

Sometimes I wonder if these organizations would exist today if the world cared as much about boys as they do about girls... Would any terrorist organization exist if boys weren't indoctrinated to hate? Would any exist if boys were protected and loved like girls are?
