Without evidence or the judge's opinion, it's hard to say what we're actually seeing here.

The sheriff's opinion at the bottom seems clear. He's "disappointed that the judge ruled Ms....."

I've resisted temptation every other time I've run across a thread you're in here but what the heck, I really want to thank you for your work. You've been such a huge part of why I stopped claiming feminism after thirty years. I was so well programmed, both biologically and culturally that I was simply ignoring my own experience, until I encountered you and the other MRAs who were able to intellectually articulate and vigorously defend my gut feelings about anti-male gender injustice. I have a teenaged daughter and I want women to have the right to pursue any job or life they want—with the notable exclusion of sitting in a man-blaming ideological echo chamber amplifying their fear and resentment of men.

Just thanks, that's all.

Yeah, women have equal opportunity. In fact, they often get priority over men just for having vaginas.

You're absolutely right. Which is why I'm happy that my daughter is aware that there are both advantages and disadvantages to being either male or female. And she heckles her hardcore feminist girl friends relentlessly. Back when she was 15 she had three friends over and they were playing some game where they wrote everything they didn't like about each other on some square 1-liter plastic water bottles. I don't know the rules of the game but when emptying the trash I found and read these bottles. Three of them were criticisms about clothes and music and taste in boys but the third was just a rip on her most feminist friend for her single-minded feminism. It was awesome reading all three other girls take her to task for it.

As a single dad with custody by her choice we have a very non-traditionalist life together. She's a natural leader and a talented musician and songwriter (better than me) and I'm extremely happy she's able to avoid the siren call of feminist victimhood.

Awesome. I aspire and admire, Sir.

Meh, I've known a few sheriffs in my time. Some were decent people who's opinion on something like this might mean something to me, others...well, anytime a judge wouldn't go along with their nonsense they'd get pissy about it. So the opinion alone doesn't mean much to me.

This article, however.... http://www.wyff4.com/article/sheriff-man-woman-say-students-would-be-shot-if-it-was-god-s-will/7015158

So they were both drugged up and ready to kill some kids, yet she walks. I'd love to know why. Could be because of her gender and some archaic judge's notion of propriety, but it seems such an egregious example of the "women are wonderful" effect that I have doubts.

EDIT: I apologize if I missed the sarcasm.

You ever hear of Karla Homolka? After that case, I'd believe almost anything regarding women getting off scot free if there's a man around to blame.

Oh, I know it happens, and am not suggesting otherwise. It's just that I suffer from a healthy(ish) dose of skepticism and curiosity; I want to know why she was let off and what the rational for it was before I get out my torches and pitchforks.

This, as with many other cases like it, seems an extraordinary example of a woman getting away with a severe crime. I'd just like to see the extraordinary evidence is all.

...and if I'm being entirely honest, posting a picture of an article instead of the actual article screams "manipulative" to me, so I become even more suspicious.

The article is in print. Of course a photo of it is how it will be submitted. I've read articles in print (back when I actually read print papers) that I haven't been able to find a digital version of.

That said, not saying this guy isn't pushing a bias. Just saying that it's not out of the realm of possibility that he's being honest.

heh, ya, came across that one as well. Thanks though.

I'm currently trolling the court's website, looking to see if I can kick up the actual judgement and opinions. From what I've read ( more than a few online articles ), the situation seems everything promised. Which is more than a bit sad, because no one seems outraged by Jeter walking.

[–]Swole_is_life 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, remember innocent until proven guilty. She may well have gotten a pussypass but being charged is very different from being convicted. The evidence against her could simply have been weaker.

[–]bakedpotato486 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Damn, the online article is behind a paywall...

[–]mrwhibbley 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What is the mans criminal record, and even though they were both charged with the same crime was their involvement the same? Did she cooperate? Lots of factors to take into account

[–]Metal-Phoenix 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

What kind of factors do you need to take into account to justify getting hopped up and claiming it was God's will???

http://www.wyff4.com/article/sheriff-man-woman-say-students-would-be-shot-if-it-was-god-s-will/7015158

That kind of think is designed to paralyze people. There is absolutely no disputing what they did.

[–]mrwhibbley 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I wasn't able to read the article so I wanted to keep an open mind until I had other information. I think people of all races and ethnicities jump to conclusions prior to having all the information and it causes more problems that it solves.

[–]Metal-Phoenix 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Race and ethnicity have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not action XYZ is a crime and whether or not someone is treated equally under the law

[–]WikiTextBot 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Equal Protection Clause

The Equal Protection Clause is part of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution. The clause, which took effect in 1868, provides that no state shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction "the equal protection of the laws".

A primary motivation for this clause was to validate the equality provisions contained in the Civil Rights Act of 1866, which guaranteed that all people would have rights equal to those of all citizens. As a whole, the Fourteenth Amendment marked a large shift in American constitutionalism, by applying substantially more constitutional restrictions against the states than had applied before the Civil War.

Right. But since I couldn't read the article I decided to hold my judgement until I had further information. There's always a possibility of extenuating circumstances that are not mentioned in the headline. And I feel that often people jump to the conclusion that they want to be true instead of waiting for evidence that their opinions are true.
