Boy who loses testicles denied compensation (link in underbar). My question - is this at all to do with his sex?

On /r/feminism there's a post that says "The average prison sentence for men that kill their female partners is 2-6 years. The average sentence for women that kill their male partners is 15 years." Iv

UK government STILL only features abuse of women by men in its "This Is Abuse" campgain. (See Text)

So it turns out /r/socialism is cluttered with folks from SRS and /r/feminism... It's hard being a left wing non-feminist. Anyone else like me out there?!!

A 'feminist' just said this to me about male victims of domestic violence...

We need to do a new survey - with better questions, and spread it around to counter the spread of the sabotaged one.

I made 2 pictures for @Vagendamagazine's "Normalising Headlines" social media campaign. Here's a comparison after 50/60 minutes.

Open question - how can we counter misogyny in the movement?

Homophobia is everywhere - and we should speak up against practices such as these.

It has to do with his parents taking a certain risk when they opt for that type of surgery.

It's tragic, but I don't think it's a men's rights issue, similar mistakes can happen to female children.

Doubt it. At any rate, this isn't like the "pussy pass" where there's thousands of well documented cases and statistical studies backing it up. Cases like this are pretty rare and I haven't seen anything to suggest people see it as being worse when it happens to a girl.

The surgery does have everything to do with his sex - but it is not gender discrimination or anything of the sort, initially. The controversy here surrounds the meaning of consent when the parents asked for the surgery for their son - apparently, a resident took spoken, but not written, consent to act in the boy's best interests.

I'd be more concerned for the boy in his future - as his father says, he may now face bullying in school and rejection in his sex life because of this incident. Certainly, the boy is threatened by a circulating social norm that it is somehow "unmanly" for him to have this condition.

I think, to answer the question directly, time will tell. It's going to depend a lot on how society treats men and boys in this kid's future.

Agreed. I think that the article is scarce on the details, but this is more about consent and risk in managed health care than gender.

There are prosthetic testicles, as one option. I agree it's a difficult place for that boy.
