Your first sentence, "In reality, domestic violence is a pattern of assaultive and coercive behaviors that abusive men use to control their intimate partners" shows ignorance or negligence in recognizing that there are male victims of domestic violence.

In fact, males are victims of domestic violence in similar numbers to females, as shown by literally hundreds of peer reviewed studies:

This bibliography examines 286 scholarly investigations: 221 empirical studies and 65 reviews and/or analyses, which demonstrate that women are as physically aggressive, or more aggressive, than men in their relationships with their spouses or male partners. The aggregate sample size in the reviewed studies exceeds 371,600.

You may be forgiven because the federal governmen actually blocked funding for ‪#‎VAWA‬ studies focusing on violence against men. PDF, see page 6, section K-4
